Promoting the enjoyment, study, and conservation of Wisconsin's birds.

WSO asks YOU to help organize Big Birding Bash on May 21-22

The Wisconsin Society of Ornithology, in place of its annual convention this year, would like to invite birders of all levels (members and non-members) throughout Wisconsin to participate in the state’s first Big Birding Bash.

The event will consist of birding walks, field trips and other birding opportunities offered throughout Wisconsin on May 21 or May 22. Any groups or individuals will be able to contribute their findings to a shared eBird list. It is our hope that birders in each of Wisconsin’s 72 counties will be able to contribute to the effort. We are excited to see how many species we can find statewide in a single day.

WSO has been building a Regional Coordinator program to help strengthen its local connections throughout the state. WSO’s Regional Coordinators, and others interested in becoming one, are encouraged to help with this event by recruiting leaders and assisting in organizing a variety of opportunities throughout the day in their respective areas. It’s our hope that we are able to offer multiple field trips or other events throughout the day, to various locations and at various starting times within each region.

Let us know if you are planning any events or outings for that weekend and where you will be birding. Anything goes as long as there are birds to see and count! We will get more information out soon, but feel free to ask questions in the meantime. You can contact Jennifer Lazewski at executive.director@wsobirds.org or Jeff Baughman at jlbirder@gmail.com
