Annual Loon Monitoring Program

LoonWatch seeks Volunteers to Monitor Wisconsin Loons

LoonWatch seeks volunteers, or Loon Rangers, who live on or regularly visit a Wisconsin lake. Loon Rangers monitor loons every year from ice out to ice on. They not only record important loon events on the lake but they provide a critical educational service by discussing loon protection and habitat conservation with their neighbors, lake association, anglers, and other visitors to the lake.

Volunteers receive a LoonWatch Information Guide and other information about loons to help them learn more about this northern bird. New volunteers are encouraged to attend one of two training workshops in June where you can learn more about loons and the monitoring program. All Loon Rangers receive our biannual newsletter, Tremolo.

To sign-up, call or send us a letter or e-mail and tell us and which lake (and its associated county) you would like to monitor.
